Field Notes week one

Observed

Reaction

· As I walked in the field sports building at 2:58 the throwers were lined up against the wall.

· They started doing their 4 laps around the track by 3:00. They were in groups talking while they ran.

· The coach sets up the throwing ring inside the track at the end.

· When the girls started warming up they practiced the techniques. I noticed most of them practicing the spinning technique.

· Every time the girls threw the weight they made a loud noise.

· After each throw the coach talks to them to tell them what they can do to throw farther or he’s congratulating them on how far they threw.

· They measure the weight where ever it hits the floor with a long piece of measuring tape.

· After practice there is a team meeting

· Maybe it was a procedure that they went through before practice or I thought they were going to do wall sits.

· They have friendships with each other and the talking seemed as if it helped them get through the running faster.

· The throwing is about to begin. I’m surprised it’s not that hard to set up the throwing area.

· There are 2 techniques to throwing and the spinning technique is the hardest. Were they aiming for perfection?

· The weight must be straining them. I wonder if their arms hurt after each throw. The sound they make makes me shake in the inside because it’s an unpleasant sound to listen to. Some were louder than others.

· The makes sure he can help them with whatever he can to improve their throwing.

· Knowing the measurement of the throw is very important. It seems as if they try to throw farther than what they threw the previous throw.

· They reflect what went on in practice. The laugh about some of things that went on at the previous meet. The coach tells them when the next meet will be and what will going on the rest of the week.
